bud break
I was out checking our vineyard here in Cowichan Bay today, and checking in on my babies (grapes) when I noticed that some of the vines were really enjoying the hotter temperatures in the grow-tubes we have around them and had already gone through the wooly-bud stage and were actually in bud-break.
It’s such a relief to see the young plants make it relatively unscathed through a pretty severe winter (for the West Coast that is - all of you in the rest of Canada would still say it was pretty darn mild)
We’re busy prepping for our season opener on the weekend. Had Shaw Cable in on Friday to film a segment on the new Zork closures that we’re trialing on our famous award winning blackberry dessert wine. The new patio is finished, and looks great, and we’ve tidied everything up as much as we can. Looking forward to a fantastic time on Saturday - hope to see a lot of people come out to support Hospice.
We also attended a great wine tasting event at the Inn at Laurel Point a week ago. My wife Linda helped organize it for WIVA, which is the local association of wine makers. The event saw 25 wineries, meaderies, cideries & distilleries get together and pour for the afternoon to a very appreciative crowd. It was completely sold out (oversold if you include the trade, media and complimentary tickets given out) and was a huge success. We got rave reviews for our soon to be released Rose and Pinot Noir - as well great response to our Blackberry, Ortega and Pinot Gris. I think they are some of the best wines I’ve ever made, so this should be a good year.
We’re going to produce some postcards this year, so we had a great photographer Sean Fenzl take some pictures for us. We may post some in the next day or two to get feedback on everyones favourites- so we can decide which to actually make postcards from.
Hope your garden is coming alive like ours is….

Hi guys! Just stopping in to see what’s happening as I know this is a busy and exciting time of year for you!
Those new Zork closures are like nothing I’ve ever seen - what a fantastic idea, especially with that DELICIOUS Blackberry, which beckons to be savored, it’s nice to be able to replace the ‘zork’ easily on the bottle.
I had a great time shooting photos with you out at your farm, and can’t wait to see what the consensus is on the postcard photos - It was a great idea to do something out-of-the-ordinary. Visiting your winery is such a wonderful experience, I’ll be back, but will have to bring my wife next time!
Did your product shots the other night as well - they look super classy! I’m sure you’ll be impressed.
Cheers!
Sean
