Happy New Year
I haven’t posted for a while, the weather here on Vancouver Island turned quite foul in December with huge dumps of snow that needed to be cleared practically every day.
Our 2008 vintages are coming along well - we’ve clarified, cold stabilized and filtered our whites and rose, ready for their spring release.
The rose turned out every bit as good as I had hoped - and the added bonus is the Pinot Noir that remained after we drew off the rose is also very robust and full-flavoured. We’re doing a few last tweaks - and then we will be sending the samples off to VQA panels and then bottling.
Everyone talks about January and February being the quiet time in the winery/vineyard - but that’s not really the case - it’s a good time for visiting restaurants, planning for the upcoming year, and many other activities, along with getting wine ready for bottling and spring releases.
Oh - and it’s a good time to take a short break - which we did at Mount Washington last week skiing. The conditions weren’t great, but the weather was nice and we had a great time. We stayed with our friends up at Beaufort Winery (just North of Courtney) and had a great time sampling their upcoming releases!
