It’s all downhill from here
Just Kidding! But I did hit a milestone this week, I celebrated my 40th birthday. I spent the morning putting nets up in our vineyard, The starlings have finally arrived, putting some new urgency on getting all the nets around our grapes. We’ve never had to worry about Ortega before, but this year they are so late that we have to net them or lose them.
Our Ortega and Siegerrebe are ripe, along with the Agria. Surprisingly, our late varieties (Pinot Noir & Pinot Gris) are almost as sweet as the early varieties. There’s hope yet….
I can’t believe what we have accomplished in the past few years. If you had asked me when I turned 30, what I would be doing in 10 years I would never have predicted this…
In 98 I was still working in Calgary in the Oil industry. Since then I’ve moved to Ontario, moved to Vancouver Island, started a winery, quit my day job…. And Linda’s stuck with me through all of it… We’re hoping to have a little more free time this winter, and get back into downhill skiing, which we haven’t really done much of since we left Alberta 10 years ago.
All of this makes me wonder what I’ll be doing in another 10 years…
