Medals

We just found out the results of the two competitions we entered this year. We brought home four medals (3 silver, 1 bronze) which compares pretty well to last year (2 gold, 1 silver), but considering last season was tough weather-wise, I’m pretty happy with the overall result. I’m really pleased with how our Ortega fared, it won a silver and was the highest medal for an Ortega varietal wine. I changed how I made the Ortega last year, added some skin soak time, and added a small amount of Siegerrebe. I think the results are pretty great, and it looks like others agree with me. I’m also really pleased with the blackberry, which took a silver for the third year in a row, and beat out all of the other blackberry wines. It is judged in a flight with either all sweet fruit wines (Northwest Wine Summit) or all “soft fruit” sweet wines (All Canadian Wine Championship). So it’s a pretty big category either way with a lot of different types and styles of wines. Our vines are taking off, so this season is finally under way.
