Rocky Creek Winery Blackberry 2007 recognized as the Top Blackberry Wine at the West Coast Wine Competition

Results from the West Coast Wine Competition have just been released, and Rocky Creek Winery on Vancouver Island was the only winery in the prestigious competition to receive a medal for its Blackberry wine.  The wine received a Bronze medal in the large and highly competitive Fruit Wine classification.  “Only 8 fruit wines were awarded medals, so we were excited to be recognized in such an elite group” says Linda Holford, the president of Rocky Creek Winery.  “Our Blackberry has been our most consistent product, winning medals with every release since we started in 2005 including silver medals at the Northwest Wine Summit and All Canadian Wine Championships.  This confirms what we seen in other competitions, our Blackberry wine is the best.”  This particular wine (Blackberry 2007) previously won a silver medal at the Northwest Wine Summit in 2008.

The West Coast Wine Competition is one of the most prestigious competitions held each year and open to wines produced in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington,  Baja California, British Columbia, Australia, and New Zealand.  Over 1700 entries are received and judged by some of the world’s top wine judges.

“We felt it was time to broaden our horizons and start entering our top product into some of the largest and most competitive wine competitions in North America.”  says Mark Holford, the winemaker at Rocky Creek.  “After being the best in Canada and the best in the Pacific Northwest for several years running, we thought it was time to stack our wine up against the best products the entire west coast has to offer.  Taking our wine to competitions in California was a huge step, as it is the largest winemaking region in North America and is home to some of the biggest and most successful North American wineries.”

This award winning wine is available direct from the winery or can be found in many private wine and beer stores across Vancouver Island and in the lower mainland.  See our website for a directory of stores selling our products.
