Ortega is a wine that is hard to describe because of the earthy undertones but unique and worth trying. it has a sweet aroma but finishes and tastes dry. This wine is described by many as subtle and refreshing. It can handle many spicy foods. Ortega goes very well with oysters, mushrooms, cheeses and bread. Try this with macaroni and cheese!
This varietal has won silver at the Northwest Wine Summit 3 years in a row, which was the highest award given for that varietal. Ortega is predominantly grown on Vancouver Island. This varietal was named after the Spanish philosopher who was admired by the man who developed the variety. Cheers!
